Getting error: "the account is not authorized to login from this station" when trying to drive map workgroup share
We have 2 computers in the same workgroup (so not domain joined). One of the servers is Windows 2008 R2 Standard. The other isn't really a server, but rather an EMC CIFS Server, which basically emulates some aspects of a Windows 2003 server. This EMC "server" allows you to use the Computer Management snap-in to create users/groups, create shares and assign NTFS permissions to the shares. We've used it pretty extensively in our company, but always domain-joined, not as a workgroup. When I try and map a drive on my 2008 server to the 2003 share I get the following error "The mapped network drive could not be created because the following error has occurred: The account is not authorized to login from this station". Upong digging into the problem further, many people said it had to do with the local security policy on the 2008 server. So I have disabled the settings as shown here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/281648/. Additionally, I have changed the following registry keys to 0: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanworkstation\paraments and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanserver\paraments - enablesecuritysignature and requiresecurity signature However, I am still getting an error when I map the drive. Why I try and use the computer management snap in with the Shift+right click option selected to "Run as different user", and enter (2003 server name>\Administrator as the username and the password, I get the following error "Login failure: unknown user name or bad password." However, I am able to do a ctrl+alt+delete from the 2008 server and reset the 2003 server's password without incident. Anybody have any ideas?

When you have a workgroup configuration, then every user account is local, which means that a single user account should be on both computers. To avoin the impact of port, disable firewall temporarily. Regards Milos

Turns out that those settings don't seem to take effect until a reboot is perfomed. Rebooted the server and all was well. The problem was the settings listed in the following article for those interested or who have the same problem: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/281648/
